Site establishment, box-cut support, decline development, shotcrete and raiseboring services.
The extremely remote location of Newcrest’s Havieron Project saw the company call out a trusted partner once again.
Newcrest's new Havieron project, located in the remote dune country of WA's Great Sandy Desert, required a trusted, innovative and experienced Contractor to kick off the greenfields project. Newcrest's successful relationship with Byrnecut at nearby Telfer and Cadia in NSW saw the company reach out to us once again.
The small surface footprint, fragile environment and temperamental climatic conditions required some out of the box thinking to establish the site and commence the Works. Engagement of the local Martu people is also critical for the project's success.
The 2.6km long single heading decline will progress from the surface through various sedimentary rocks strata to reach the fresh material horizon at depth. By combining rotary cutting and drill & blast mining methods, together with heavy use of fibrecrete and self-drilling rock anchors, the excavation will be progressed rapidly.
The site is accessed from Newcrest's Telfer hub, which is well supported with road freight and air support networks. From there however, access is more difficult with all supplies required to be hauled to site across challenging access roads requiring multi-drive all terrain vehicles.
The site Is operated on a FIFO basis, 365 days per year 24 hrs per day with personnel sourced ex-Perth.
