Declining and lateral development, long hole rising and sub-level caving production

Byrnecut's professionalism and customer relationships were key elements in being chosen to develop Thunderbox.

The Thunderbox mine is a major underground gold mine for Northern Star. Byrnecut established the underground mine and infrastructure; portals, access declines, drill drives, together with ventilation rises, escapeway and slot rises.

Byrnecut was initially selected from a short list of contractors through a competitive tender process, building on the successful relationship established via the Carosue Dam Operations, 200km to the south.

Thunderbox has successfully transitioned into a large modern sub-level caving operation and Byrnecut are pleased to partner with Northern Star, one of Australia’s largest gold producers.

As a previous open pit operation, an airstrip and camp are already established on site. Access to site is via Kalgoorlie and Leinster, with personnel currently commuting to site on a FIFO basis from Perth.
