Scope
Decline, lateral development and production activities

In 2017 Byrnecut commenced development of Gold Fields Australia's new Invincible gold mine in the centre of Lake Lefroy , a large salt lake complex south of Kambalda WA.

Commencing a new decline beneath the salt lake of Lake Lefroy was no problem for Byrnecut's experienced underground mining team.

Following the successful completion of our Athena/ Hamlet mining contract, Byrnecut was once again selected as the preferred mining contractor to develop the new Invincible deposit.

Multiple decline portals were established from within the open pit to provide decline access and ventilation return airways beneath the salt crusted mud flats of the lake system.

Establishing maintenance and surface facilities atop the lake also presented new unique challenges, with all buildings and footings being established on backfilled "islands" in the lake centre.

A state of the art Sandvik Automine Lite system enables autonomously guided production loaders and longhole drills to be remotely controlled from underground and surface control stations. The mine is accessed from town of Kambalda and the operation employs over 270 people; either fly-in, fly out from Perth or local residents of Kambalda and Kalgoorlie.
