Liontown said Byrnecut’s demonstrable record and capability across the entire underground value chain, from mine start to full and ongoing production and at a size and scale required at Kathleen Valley, was critical to its success in the tender process.

Kathleen Valley (KV) is Byrnecut’s second underground lithium mine, the first being at Greenbushes in the 1990’s. The A$1.0 billion contract is however Byrnecut’s largest Contract award to date.

Byrnecut was ultimately selected in recognition of its extensive expertise in large-scale underground mining, including state-of-the-art and technologically advanced mining equipment and processes, robust safety and training systems and logistical support.

Byrnecut will invest more than A$125 million in new equipment highlighting our commitment to the successful delivery of underground mining services to Liontown.

Commencing on-time in November 2023, Byrnecut successfully excavated the six underground portals, establishing the decline access required for access to the underground lithium orebody. Operations will progressively ramp through 2024/ 2025 with the project planned to eventually produce up to 4.0Mtpa of ore and 700,000tpa of spodumene concentrate.

Byrnecut is committed to working in collaboration with the Tjiwarl Traditional Owners to increase Indigenous participation in mining. The Kathleen Valley project is located in the North-eastern Goldfields area of Western Australia.
