Graduate and Vacation Programs

Graduate Mining Engineer Program

Get your hands dirty in our Graduate Mining Engineer Program, kicking off your career with direct exposure to all aspects of the underground mining cycle.

This program introduces newly qualified mining engineers to industry, through world class training and practical experience, plus mentorship from industry leaders.

Mining Engineer Vacation Work

Students undertaking a mining engineering degree will have the opportunity to develop strong relationships and gain practical work experience through our Summer Vacation Program.

This invaluable program gives students a chance to learn about our operations whilst building a strong support network, with a view to enrolling in our Graduate Mining Engineer Program.

Apprenticeships

Byrnecut is an equal opportunity employer that offers a diverse range of apprenticeships in the mining industry. We provide excellent training and learning opportunities to many young and mature-age people, with many progressing to full-time roles.

Our apprentices are rotated through various mine sites, gaining valuable skills and experience working alongside mining professionals. We arrange off-the-job training of all apprentices via a registered training organisation (RTO). This training, combined with the skills gained on site, provides our apprentices with the knowledge needed to conduct servicing, repairs, overhaul and fault-finding in their specific trade.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, graduates receive a nationally recognised Certificate III qualification for their specific trade.

Desired attributes for apprentices:

  • Successful completion of Year 11
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Current C-class driver’s licence
  • Completion or partial completion of a pre-apprenticeship (highly advantageous but not essential)

Mature-age applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

Mature-age applicants and ex-Defence Force personnel

Mature-age workers are critical to our success. With skill shortages expected to increase, investing in and employing people aged 45 years and older makes sense to us. That’s why we encourage mature-aged people to apply for our positions.

We also encourage ex-Defence Force personnel to apply, because we recognise that they have many skills transferable to the mining industry. Most exhibit exemplary self-discipline, unfailing loyalty and exceptional reliability.

Indigenous training

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples wanting to start a career in the mining industry.

We have support services available to assist jobseekers within Australia to choose a training course or find their career path and employment.

BOAB delivers the full array of training services, covering metalliferous open pit and underground mining, as well as civil construction and road-building.

International training

A fundamental obligation of Byrnecut’s social licence to operate in international jurisdictions is to ensure that we develop and leave a lasting legacy of skilled and competent mining professionals. We believe the most important social investment we can make is to train a local workforce to become safe, efficient and reliable miners.

Byrnecut draws on over 30 years of proven experience, combined with accredited training programs, to ensure local workforces receive industry-leading training outcomes. To date, more than 97,434 accredited competencies have been awarded to employees on our international projects, setting up our local workforces to succeed well into the future.

We offer a diverse range of career opportunities across the globe.
