Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2023
As part of NAIDOC week 2023 theme “For our Elders”, we continued our celebrations, embracing and recognising the oldest, continuous living culture on earth with the opening ceremony in Perth, then onto Kalgoorlie for the Goldfields Aboriginal Business Chambers Trade show and forum.
Being in Kalgoorlie provided BOAB an opportunity to meet and collaborate with many local community elders, School staff, Businesses and Traditional owner groups.
With attending the Business forum, a couple of highlights were BOAB taking out the Horizon Power prize and the speech from Australian Olympic Gold medallist, Senator and keynote speaker Nova Peris.
Not only was Nova’s family part of the stolen generation, but the many challenges that Nova experienced in life, she was always determined to do whatever it takes.
“As a child growing up, I dreamt big. Most people would have looked at an Aboriginal girl from the Territory, where the statistics….point to every reason why I should not succeed. But I was determined to be successful”.
