The mine is located in the old Siberia gold mining area, northwest of Kalgoorlie in the Eastern Goldfields of Western Australia. The new mine, nestled amongst a field of old workings, will deliver valuable gold bearing ore to Ora Banda’s central mill at Davyhurst, a further 40km NW.

The new gold mine will be developed by a portal in an existing open pit mine, with decline and level development preceding the production activities scheduled to commence six months later.

The mine will utilise conventional long-hole open stope mining techniques using large scale mechanised mining equipment. A fleet of the new Caterpillar R2900XE diesel-electric loaders will be utilised at Sand King after successful trials at other Byrnecut sites.

Personnel will operate a FIFO roster from Perth to site and accommodated at the OBM Davyhurst mine camp.
